3/25/2017 - Last Practice before our big race!


POTLUCK for our last practice.

Please bring something to share with your RBO friends...

We'll have practice as usual and will start the Potluck at 10:45AM.


BIKE LIBRARY VISIT during the Potluck.

Oakland Librarian, Mana will bring the Library Bike and will offer library card sign-ups and give away books. 

Don't hesitate to meet her and chat with her. We are so lucky that she is taking the time to come meet the RBO Community! She'll have books for all ages!

Mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaaf, is planning to meet us at the Camron Stanford House on Saturday to cheer us up before the Oakland Running Festival next week.

Let's all gather to give Libby a warm welcome!


Nutrition Clinic for the 5K - K-4 Students

Laura has some great advice for all.  She'll give a short presentation to the Kangaroos right before they start their warm-up.


Meet 2014 Winner of the Oakland Running Festival Half, Sam Robinson & his fiancee, Caitlin Smith, elite ultra-runner

Sam has the course record for the Oakland Half and also won Berkeley Half 2015. He is an ultra runner like Caitlyn

When not running, Caitlyn is a doula, always on call for the next delivery of a baby!

Sam is a Grad student at UC Berkeley.

Sam and Caitlin will talk with the Half Marathon and 5K older group and will run with the 5K students after the warm-up.


And.... Yes we are running this week! 

 

 

Half Marathon: 2 laps around the lake

with a stop at next week race start line for a visualization exercise during the first lap - Imagine race day! Prepare some positive thoughts! What will you do when you cross the Finish line?

 

 

5K - older group (5-12th Grade): 3 to 4 miles but not a lap - turn back when you get to the columns or a little after...

yes, Jeff will also prepare you for race day! It's not just another practice! You want to give all you have on that day and still have a nice smile for the camera at the Finish Line

 

 

5K - younger group (K-4): 2.5 to 3 miles

Easy! Emily and Emily will be leading the Kangaroos this Saturday - I'm sure they'll discuss race day and will prepare you for your big moment when you have to smile for the camera as you cross the finish line!

If you are not too tired and can plan to stay until noon, please consider helping after the race! The more of us can help, the faster it will go! It's a friendly environment - it will be fun and I can sign Community service hours for the High School students. Please contact me if you can help

This is a Youth event so we unfortunately have to limit the number of adults going to one adult for 3 students.

Caitlin Smith's Bio:

  • age 35,

  • engaged to Sam Robinson,

  • Lives in Oakland,

  • when she is not running, she is coaching running, Instructing Pilates, painting/drawing and delivering babies as a Doula. 

Cailtin Smith is a multitalentedrunner, who won't choose trail nor road, she will race both. “They complement each other well, even though they’re slightly different sports,” she says. “I like being able to measure time improvements on the roads and just run by effort on the trails. Among other running accomplishments, Caitlinqualified for two Marathon Olympic trials, 2012 and 2016, she wonthe U.S. 50K trail championships in August 2015, in California. She has won many races including the prestigious North Face Endurance Challenge 50 mile in 2009.The back-and-forth nature of her training keeps her engaged.
