Running for a Better Oakland (RBO) is seeking a reliable, organized, and community-minded Part-Time Program Coordinator to support the on-the-ground execution of our youth running programs. This role plays a key part in ensuring weekly practices and events run safely, smoothly, and with care for our students and families.

Position Overview

The Part-Time Program Coordinator supports in-person program operations for RBO’s youth running programs. This role focuses on the day-to-day logistics of weekly practices and events, including equipment transport, setup and breakdown, check-in and check-out, attendance tracking, and volunteer support.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Approximately 10 hours per week

  • Saturday morning availability is required

  • Additional weekday hours as needed for preparation and follow-up

  • Hourly rate: $28.30/hour

  • Hours may fluctuate slightly during the season

Key Responsibilities

Weekly Practice & Event Preparation

  • Purchase fresh fruit and prepare snack table supplies

  • Fill and transport water coolers

  • Prepare and print materials such as name tags, check-in sheets, and signage

  • Charge and maintain two-way radios and other program equipment

  • Organize race bibs and program materials for distribution

  • Assist with basic registrant support related to practice logistics as needed

Equipment Transportation & Setup

  • Transport all necessary equipment to practice and event sites and return it afterward

  • Load, unload, and set up equipment at each location

  • Maintain equipment and report any lost or damaged items

Event Day Operations

  • Arrive early to prepare and clear the event space

  • Set up check-in areas, snack tables, and practice stations

  • Support and direct volunteers to assigned roles

  • Manage check-in and check-out procedures and assist with same-day registrations as needed

  • Track attendance and submit attendance data after each practice

  • Assist with announcements and student flow at practices and events

  • Support start and finish line procedures during races and special events

  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise

  • Ensure all equipment is packed up and the site is left clean and organized

General Support

  • Communicate promptly with RBO staff regarding schedules, needs, or issues

  • Participate in required training and professional development opportunities

  • Uphold RBO’s values of inclusion, safety, and positive youth development

Required Qualifications

  • Availability to work Saturday mornings and occasional weekday hours

  • Reliable vehicle and ability to transport program equipment

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Comfort interacting with students, families, volunteers, and coaches

  • Calm, positive, and solutions-oriented approach

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (reasonable accommodations available)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, youth programs, or community-based organizations

  • Experience supporting events, sports programs, or volunteer-led programs

  • Fluency in Spanish

  • Familiarity with running, athletics, or youth sports programs

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of a background check, including DOJ Live Scan

  • Negative TB test

  • Ability to travel to various locations in Oakland and the Bay Area

  • Friendly, approachable, and dependable demeanor

  • Commitment to working with Oakland youth and families
