Work That Moves Oakland Forward

Running for a Better Oakland (RBO) is a youth development nonprofit that uses running as a tool to build confidence, community, and healthy habits for Oakland students. Our programs create consistent, supportive spaces where young people can move their bodies, set goals, and feel proud of themselves.

Our team is small, collaborative, and deeply committed to showing up for our students and families. If you care about youth, community, and meaningful, hands-on work, we’d love to hear from you.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re always excited to connect with people who:

  • Care deeply about youth, community, and equity in Oakland

  • Are reliable, organized, and show up prepared

  • Enjoy hands-on, people-centered work

  • Communicate clearly and kindly

  • Stay calm and solutions-oriented in dynamic environments

  • Are respectful across cultures and backgrounds

  • Are comfortable working outdoors and being on their feet

What It’s Like to Work at RBO

Working at RBO means being part of a small but mighty team. Our work is hands-on, community-based, and often outdoors. Practices can be busy, weather can be unpredictable, and no two days look exactly the same.

We value clear communication, shared responsibility, and supporting one another so our students can thrive. The impact of the work is immediate and visible, and relationships are at the heart of everything we do.
