What you'll do

Every student trains through a structured program built to build confidence and set real goals — not just faster mile times. Students receive an RBO performance shirt, running shoes, healthy snacks at practice, entries into local races, and steady encouragement from youth coaches, run mentors, and coaches every step of the way.

Senior Scholars

Graduating seniors who complete the RBO program and volunteer Youth Coaches are eligible for the Senior Scholarship Program — and it's more than a check. Scholars attend monthly meetings covering goal-setting, financial planning, and preparing for college and career success. To qualify, each student completes a half-marathon and writes two reflections — one on training, one on race day — plus community service (past cohorts have volunteered at the Lake Merritt Gardens, packed food at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and more). Some scholarship recipients go on to return as Run Mentors themselves.
