What the program involves

Scholars attend monthly meetings covering goal-setting, financial planning, and preparing for college and career success — this isn't just a check at graduation, it's a season-long program. To complete the application, each student:

  • Completes a half-marathon

  • Writes two essay reflections — one about training for the half-marathon, one about the race itself

  • Completes a community service requirement (past cohorts have volunteered at the Lake Merritt Gardens, packed food at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and more)
